ESCAPE FROM MOVING CHAOS TO YOUR NEW HOME!

In the good old days many relocation companies paid everything for an employee to move.  That service included everything from packing everything and unpacking it at the other destination.  Most of us do not have that choice any more.  The only time I really suffered in those "good old days" was during a move to Bangkok where the movers underestimated, showed up drunk and then proceeded to be sick all over the front yard. And this was one of the big three movers.

Today you are usually on your own.  Relocation allowances have been restricted by tax laws and company budgets.  Here are some questions to be asking YOURSELF before you commit to calling a moving company.

1.  Do you have a package door to door service provided by your employer?

2.  Have you been given a flat allowance for moving?

3.  Are you doing the moving yourself?

4.  Are you paying for everything?

5.  Is this a long term move or a temporary move?

6.  Do you have a trailing spouse, kids, pets, a house of furniture or more than one vehicle?

Have you answered yes to questions (2- 6)?

YOUR FIRST STEPS

Look at where the money is coming from for the move.  Make note of whether this is a temporary or permanent move.  The tricky part is whether it is a cash offer or a weight allowance by your company or out of your own pocket completely?  Now you ready to inventory your possessions and make decisions.  When you have a rough idea of what you are going to take with you, you a ready to move to the next part.
